Honestly, I haven't voted because I really don't feel like the episode really put forth a full on understanding of the situation and how it came to be and what possessed John to do as such. Really didn't feel like the episode put forth any sort of fleshed out development or reasonable logic either way for the way it happened.
Would have prefered to actually have some sort of idea of what John's perspective was on the situation and how it evolved.

Ditto Derek, I can agree with that. I wanted to see how John felt about having this son too. See John angst over whether to tell the boys. Know that it wasn't just a simple deadbeat move to keep it from Dean/Sam for reasons unknown. To know what this relationship meant to John.

I voted last one, because I didn't hate Adam actually. Somehow it felt bad that he was dead already before brothers heard about him being existent. What John did was cruel towards those bit older son's who needed taking care and some fatherly love in their life as well. They grew just being together, little soldiers... I don't know if it was too painful to John to be with them, when Mary was gone, or what caused that behavior of his. He was too harsh to them, poor Dean he tried to be so good boy and be like Dad...that Dad could love him. I guess daddy issue wasn't so big to Sam, even it hurted him as well. Sam has loved Dean more than he loved their Dad always, I thought so. Sigh, this series is so sad.

I think that John didn't show the love to Sam and Dean because he know that they were his weakness. Obviously Adam was not planned, but when it happened he made a choice... he was also still in a way "new" to being a hunter. Dean got sucked into it because he needed to look out for Sam when John was gone, John tried to keep it away from Sam just like Adam... but in the christmas episode we see that just being around John for a while leads to learning the life. I think that him going to take Adam to a game, and driving all that way shows what a FATHER he really is. (He didn't want Adam to be involved with the life, but still wanted to be there for him... also NOT telling Sam and Dean could be part of trying to protect Adam.) So when your thinking why didn't Sam and Dean get ballgames? That was a SIMPLE way for John to spend time with Adam, remember John spent time with the boys... but it was different. So when he goes to see Adam he tries to think "whats the normal dad thing to do?" Baseball game.
All in all I thought the episode was fine. |

It's a good way to look at it, Spense. Just different than mine.
I don't blame John for trying to protect Adam. He was right to do it and also for trying to be a good father to him in the small amount of time he got with him. But I DO blame John for not being a better father to Sam and Dean, who deserved even more than Adam. I just can't get over the fact that he "dropped everything and drove all night" to met Adam while he didn't even called back when Sam called saying that Dean was dying. (Faith, season 1) (steam) |

I'm disappointed in John. (Shaula is going to kick his ass)
The only thing that dissappoints me about John is that Dean and Sam never had a chance, but Adam got a normal life (I mean he even took him to baseball games.) Maybe he should have tried harder to keep the hunting life out of Sam's and Deans till they were MUCH older.
