You never know who you're going to randomly bump into here at Comic-Con. Take last night. I'm innocently munching on a spicy tuna roll at Warner Bros' Asian-themed cocktail reception and who should wander over to say hello but Smallville exec producer Brian Peterson. Good times, right? It gets better. The dude, who's in town for the show's historic Con panel on Sunday, talked my ear off about his blockbuster plans for season 9 and beyond. What follows after the jump are some of the highlights…

* Season 9's theme is "Clark's darkest hour."

* Look for a season-long love triangle with Clark, Lois, and Red-Blue Blur.

* Chloe, still grieving over Jimmy's death, will immerse herself in all things Watchtowerish. Peterson also hinted at some tension for Chlark when she realizes she's no longer content just being his sidekick.

* We'll find out why Clark isn't flying in a scene with him and Jor-El (the returning Terence Stamp) in the season premiere.

* Footage of Brian Austin Green as Metallo will be unveiled at tomorrow's Con panel. As of now, he's on board for two episodes, but Peterson says they're hopeful he'll do more.

* The episode they're currently shooting (either 9.02 or 9.03) focuses on Oliver's downward spiral.

* Battlestar Galactica's Alessandro Juliani will reprise his role as Dr. Emil Hamilton for several episodes this season.

* Story-wise, Peterson is not approaching this season as Smallville's last.

* I saved the best for last: Peterson recently had dinner with Michael Rosenbaum. Interpret as you like.

Finally, Ausiello brings us news that gets us all excited. And news that might possibily be true! A little worried about the Clark's darkest hour being the overall theme of season nine. I don't want that to happen throughout the season. Probably just be a major theme for a couple of episodes.

Loving the season love triangle! This will probably the only triangle in Smallville that I'll come to appreciate! :D

Can't wait to see BAG in action. I hope he scores well as Metallo. And as much as I want MR to come back, can't think too much on that dinner. Thanks for bringing this over, Gaby!

The only love triangle allowed! No Ollie or Metallo, I hope Mike makes a guest appearance, SmallVille needs him like you have no idea.

Thanks Gabriela for the information. Very interesting over all the parts where say about the character of Clark Kent. And about Michael Rosembaum, I hope that he can be in several episodes on season 9 not only in one or two.

Thanks, Carmen.

These spoilers are exciting. It's about time they addressed the flight issue with Clark that has never been addressed at all. Since he's interacting with Jor-El, that means that Clark is training at the Fortress right after Doomsday.

I'm glad that the love triangle of the 9th season is going to be Clark/ Lois/ RBB just like the iconic triangle of Clark/ Lois/ Superman from the comics. I agree that it's the only triangle we cared about more than any other.

It looks like the friction between Clark and Chloe will happen and it's probably going to be sad that their friendship may end negatively.

Dr. Emil Hamilton for more episodes? I'm in. I hope he will be part of Clark's inner circle if something does happen between Clark and Chloe.

I'm not surprised that Rabid will focus on Oliver because last season's 3rd episode focused on him. It's like they're trying to correct the last season.

Peterson and Souders may be redeemed with this milestone 175th episode and season premiere.

dinner with rosenbaum? oh hell yeah!

The Chloe thing is going to be really interesting. This reminds me of how dark season 3 was. Season 3 was personally one of my favorite seasons. I hope this season is alot like that. In the dark aspect.

I know in the comics, Dr Hamiliton is Superman's doctor, but did he ever learn that Superman and Clark Kent were the same people?

Micheal Rosenbaum may return!!!!!! I'm glad. The show lacked a real "Lex Luthor." I sense the fact that since the show can't have it Superman- verse style, they make the triangle between Clark, Lois, and red-blue-blur. I am pondering on what they meant by Chloe is through with being his sidekick. I hope they don't make her out to be a villain or even selfish, I wouldn't mind some Chlark feelings coming out again this season. But really, I hope they don't make her out to be the bad guy! I guess it's setting up for her to make her exit. I hate that there will be tension. because they are really great friends and partners. I wonder what the excuse will be for Clark's inability to fly, I guess only time will tell for our young superhero.

I hope that Clark does fly in some way because I hope the scene between he and Jor-El is not some random thing just thrown in. I want to see a payoff of sorts. Since he's interacting with Jor-El, it looks like he's training at the FoS after the 8th season finale.

Yeah, let's hope that he starts training that early in the season or even during the hiatus.

These spoilers are not that exciting, we already knew since May that Clark was going to face his darkest hour on S9:

Quote:
Brian Peterson: Clark may have some significant obstacles in his destiny next year. It may be the darkness before the rise of Superman. He's going to face probably his darkest hour I would say. He really was on a trajectory this year, but he's made some decisions that put him down a different path.

Kelly Souders: He's going to be paying the price for some rather large mistakes from the finale.

E!Online
The no flying explanation is lame, now that Clark assumes his kryptonian identity and he can't still fly? FAIL. What are they waiting for, the end of the series to let him fly? If that's their plan, is a huge mistake, many fans are tired of this stalling nonsense, "dark Clark" is not popular, woobie Zod either.... ratings will go down faster than a speeding bullet if they keep this up.

They need to get people excited, even if Clark has a proto-suit is not enough if he doesn't act more supermanish, all they're doing is dragging everything till the show is cancelled, but is not a surprise coming from the "geniuses" who wrote the retcon crap of "Eternal" and "Failsday".

I hope it's just for the first episodes.
I doesn't want that the relation of dark Clark with dark Chloe entails the destruction of Chlark.

That's why I've said that if Clark doesn't fly right now, it makes the whole thing with he and Jor-El to be pointless even if they address it. We need more than that.

i'm really quite confused with the darkest hour.. as i said in the Clois forums.. as a cloiser first and foremost (not a comic fan) it's clark's darkest hour because lois has fallen out of love from him and she's in love with RBB

but seriously, because of doomsday? sorry but they failed to show in the season finale the devastation that should have been there with doomsday present. because of chlark tension? that seems so far off if it's the reason of clark's darkest hour

and now it's two heroes' (GA and Clark) darkest hours.. who will save us?? lol

I agree with Mikelus and vantheman77. Fans are witing for this payoff for years now. I don't believe that this "explanation" will work.
Me? I don't think he'll ever fly on Smallville... lol...
