A major Smallville announcement is expected to come down at Comic-Con International this weekend in San Diego. Until then, here’s some scoop on the veteran series, which begins its ninth season on a new night—Fridays at 8pm—on September 25. Following the death of Jimmy Olsen at the hands of Doomsday in May’s season finale, Clark Kent (Tom Welling) is getting a little obsessed as the Red Blue Blur, his budding crime-fighting alias. “He is trying a little too hard to be a hero, and is leaving the rest of his life behind,” says executive producer Brian Peterson.
That might be just as well given the big comic-book-inspired villains the soon-to-be Superman will face this year. New Daily Planet reporter John Corben is transformed into the sociopath with a kryptonite-heart known as Metallo in a two-episode arc for Sarah Connor Chronicles refugee Brian Austin Green. “We know that there’s multiple versions of Metallo,” executive producer Kelly Souders says. “We picked one of the different versions and I think people will realize which one after the first episode.” This season’s main villain is Zod, the Kryptonian nemesis of Clark’s biological father, who has made previous appearance on the series. “We had a little peek at who Zod was a couple of seasons ago, which fans will remember. But this a different incarnation of Zod,” Peterson says of the new series regular, played by British actor Callum Blue (The Tudors). “We’re introducing him as Major Zod—this is before he became General Zod.” Adds Souders: “Over the course of the season, the venomous side of Zod rises because he experiences a few key betrayals with our beloved characters.” Source TV Guide Magazine

Let me guess!... Zod will fall in love with Tess, and the poor guy is actually a sweetheart in the bottom of his heart. But TANTANTANCHAAAAAN there's a love triangle and he feels betrayed and that's why he wants to kill us all. Of course in the end all this is Clark's fault somehow. Did I nail it?

This is going to be the flipside of the 8th season where we're going into another extreme of Clark as the Red-Blue Blur. It looks like he is leaving anything connected to Clark Kent the farmer and reporter behind. We're going to be seeing a full-blown Kal-El on his own accord without anything loophole like the
Black K. As for Zod, it looks like Peterson and Souders are retconning the AlMiles version of Zod, where he was a phantom from seasons 5-6. I've said this before that whatever ideas AlMiles had will be retconned and that whatever ideas the new showrunners have will stick. They killed of Henry James Olsen and now we're meeting Zod before he's the General. If he experiences betrayals, I think this is where Tess comes in. |

Thanks Gabriela for the information. Very interesting this part of Clark kent: "Clark Kent (Tom Welling) is getting a little obsessed as the Red Blue Blur, his budding crime-fighting alias. “He is trying a little too hard to be a hero, and is leaving the rest of his life behind,”. I like it. I can´t wait for watching this.

Once again, it seems like their tossing out continuity from the earlier part of the season to make Zod "hip and fresh" and make him a new, but I do find it funny to see that they chose to acknowledge it in the actual interview. After having Zod in his true form possessing Lex a few seasons back. This entire approach feels like the typical 3 steps back routine, just with Zod instead of Clark.

I'm excited about Kal-El action minus any meteor rocks.
However, I am apprehensive about their version of Metallo and definitely about their retcon version of Zod. Derek, said my sentiments exactly about the pre-General Zod issue. I love Callum, but seeing the same formula again with traits from other villians within it isn't exactly what I was hoping for *shrugs*.

It looks like we're going to see Kal-El Vs. Zod in the full-fledged fight at some point in the 9th season. No Red K, no Black K, or body possessions.

Apparently,it was also stated somewhere in the artical(although,I couldn't find it)that there's suppose to be some MAJOR announment at Comic Con reguarding the show. Has anyone else heard about this? And,what do you all think it could be? Flavie,if your reading this, can you shed any light on this?

If this Zod is a Major before he's a General, then this could possible mean that the Orb could be a time travel device that may have brought Zod into the present before he's the General.

I'm looking forward to see Clark just in hero mode. :D When he saved a lot of people in 8.16 Turbulence - unfortunately in offscreenville - he was quite happy. It's interesting to see what his mood will be and what effects will Clark experience.
I also like the Metallo spoiler. :D Actually there is just one version of Metallo which match with Smallville's version - silver age Metallo. Mainly because John Corben being a reporter at the Daily Planet. Maybe they will add some items of the modern age Metallo. Who has ever doubts that New Krypton will happen in Smallville should know it better by now. :p Since they already introduced Zod as general in season five and the other Zod being a major, I think we will see two Zods: Phantom Zone/Zod and Orb/Zod. The description we just got for Orb/Zod matched great with Zod from New Krypton. The intrigue part is that major Zod will become general Zod. It's interesting to see how they will solve all of this.

ooohh... maybe Orb/Zod is like the Tom Riddle/Diary.. a horcrux..
sorry, still couldn't get off Potter syndrome..in all honesty, i'm kinda on the edge about how they will tackle Zod. I agree with Amelie, Zod should be bad to bone.. no betrayals because of love etc etc etc.. ruined too many villains, at least in my opinion

what's with these wimpy villians? that is why I loved Lionel Luthor, he embraced his bad side with gusto until they flipped a switch and made him Ka-el's protector huh? can we have the good ole villians like the old Lex from the Superman movies, who loved killing people? enough with these I'm a villian because society made me that way crapola.
Now Clark as full on Ka-el! Mamma Like big time.
