Hi guys,
As I am a MASSIVE TVD fan I have decided to base my dissertation on the representation of females within the vampire genre. This means I am analyzing TVD, True Blood and Buffy The Vampire Slayer.
I would REALLY appreciate it if you guys could answer my questionnaire about TVD girls :D I also have another questionnaire on Buffy and True Blood, if any of you are interested in answering that as well please do let me know :D
Also for plagiarism reasons I must say that by answering, you are giving me consent to use your answers in my work, including quoting.
Many thanks!!
xx
Questionnaire
1. Who is your favourite female character and why?
2. Do you think Elena is a feminist icon? Why?
3. What other female characters in the series do you consider feminist icons? Why?
4. Do you believe that the way women are portrayed in vampire series has instead of creating strong feminists, created women who will do anything for love? Including letting vampires feed on them?
5. How do you feel about season 2 episode 21 when Klaus sacrifices three women (Jules, Jenna and Elena) even though there were more male vampires and werewolves available to be sacrificed than females. Do you think this depicts women as weak or strong, as Elena comes back to life?
6. Do you think that Stefan and Damon walk in Elena’s shadow? Even though they protect her, her does her stubbornness ultimately win her the right to her own decisions?
7. Do you think Elena is strong and determined or stupid and blind for believing Stefan will come back to her after everything he has done?
8. Are there any particularly weak female characters in the series? If yes, why?
9. What do you think about the number of key females killed off in the series as opposed to the males killed off? (Lexi, Isobelle, Vicky, Anna, Pearl, Jules, Rose, Grams, Jenna, Andie) as opposed to: Mason, Elijah, Mikael, Warlock and his son, John Gilbert.
10. Do you think there is rivalry between Elena, Caroline and/or Bonnie?
11. Do you think the image of fragile women has been turned on its head in the series with women always saving the men? If no, why?
12. Do you think women in the series are in control of their relationships and hearts? (Elena/Stefan, Bonnie/Jeremy, Caroline/Tyler)
13. Do you think women in vampire series reflect contemporary societies and the progress of feminist movements? Why?
14. Are there any female characters that you believe have really turned themselves around in the series?
Here are some questions that compare The Vampire Diaries to other vampire shows True Blood and Buffy The Vampire Slayer, please answer them if you have watched either or both of the other shows.
15. Do you believe that the depiction of female vampires makes them the more sexually aggressive gender therefore causing an unfair portrayal? Or do you believe that this is a good way of portraying women, making them appear strong and domineering over men for once and making the walk between the typical depictions of women such as good/bad, virgin/slut not so black and white? (Characters to consider: True Blood: Pam, The Vampire Diaries: Caroline, Katherine, Isabelle).
16. Do you think that Buffy, Elena and Sookie could still be seen as powerful women if they were not a: vampire slayer, doppelganger with key blood and fairy? Why?
17. Do you think women still fall puppet to men? If no, why? (Buffy sleeping with Spike even though she hated him, Elena giving in to Damon, Caroline and Vickie both were controlled by Damon, Sookie giving into Eric)
18. Do you think that characters such as Cordelia (Buffy), Debbie (True Blood) and Jenna (The Vampire Diaries) who were all cut off from the series rather fast, are put there to keep the stereotypical views of women being psychotic, clueless, weak and bitchy? Why?
Thank you so much for your time.
